Cooling towers that have mechanical vibration switches on them for protection from excessive vibration and catastrophic failure typically have neither. We know it. The industry knows it. They are "shock switches". They sense a failure of a machine component severe enough to shock the switch but only if it is properly located, mounted, set, exercised, maintained, and of course not too old. They sense failure, like a gearbox going to mush or a fan blade leaving the site.
